For a ward activity we had a filipino pig roast. We explained to Austin that we were eating the pig. He seemed okay with it. Now when I am cooking any type of meat he will look at it and ask, "pigch?" He can make a really good pig sound also.

Austin found a dress of Emma's and decided it was a shirt for him. I think he liked it because it was blue. He wore it all day and didn't care that it was on backwards.

Tiny Dancer

Emma loves to dance, spin, and is very flexible. I think she'll be our tiny dancer!

Austin and I get very motion sick. I don't think Emma does. When I put her in the johnny jump up she likes to spin one way for a long time and then let go and let it spin her the other way. It makes me sick just watching.

I {heart} NYC

Yesterday I was reminded of one of the reasons I love NYC, more specifically Queens. I love that we have friends who are from the Philippians, Indonesia, Korea, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Peru, Honduras, Brazil, and India. Along with friends who are of different faiths such as Jewish and Muslim. Yet, one of my best friends is from Rexburg. Growing up in Rexburg, there isn't very much cultural or religious diversity, and I love the diversity in Queens. I love that my children are exposed to the diversity.

Last summer my friend, Kristy, had a couple guest posts on her blog for her "I heart NY" week. Our friend, Whitney, posted and the last line of her post has stuck with me.

"I may not fit in…but that means I completely fit in!"

I love that I don't worry about having to fit in.

On another note, I had a hard couple of days at the beginning of the week. Austin has decided since we came home from Christmas vacation that he didn't want to take naps anymore. This has caused me to burnout really quickly because I haven't had time for me to recharge. We are working on it. . . . So the beginning of this week it all hit me and I was tired, exhuasted, and didn't want to leave the house because of the mounds of snow we received. You see, we don't have a car so I walk everywhere with the kids.
I have 3 options when we go somewhere.
1- Austin in the stroller, Emma in the baby carrier (this is hard because I have 20 extra lbs on me along with pushing a stroller with a 30 lb kid)
2- Emma in the stroller, Austin walking (this is hard because Ausitn likes to wander around, run ahead, and slow down to look at the snow.
3- double stroller. (this is the perfect solution except when we have snow. I am grateful for my friend who gave me a side by side double stroller she had been given. However, it is WIDE and hard to maneuver. With the recent snow we received, sometimes the sidewalks aren't shoveled wide enough to push the double stroller through.

So, for Monday and Tuesday we didn't get out of the house much. It was kind of rough. Then my week turned around. About 3 weeks ago I was chatting with a lady at the pediatrician's office. She told me she had a Maclaren double stroller sitting around at her house because her girls had outgrown it and offered it to me for free. My single stroller is a Maclaren and we love it and the Maclaren double stroller is over 2 inches narrower than my current double stroller. This would make it much easier to get in and out of doorways and around the grocery store that has teeny weeny aisles. I was excited. It was during the week that my cell phone died so I didn't have a cell phone with me. I gave her my email address and she said she would bring it by the next day. Three weeks went by and I hadn't heard from her, I was a bit sad. Thursday morning I received an email from her, she had lost my information but just found it. She brought the stroller to my apartment that day. Austin gave me some weird looks as I was jumping up and down in the elevator with joy. We have taken it out and it doesn't change the fact that i'm pushing around 50 lbs worth of kids, but it makes it a lot easier.

I tried cottage cheese with peaches today - it was sooo yummy. I'm glad I found another snack to munch on along with edamame.

I bought some lavender scented dish soap today. My favorite color is purple and I like lavender, so it's a very good thing. It makes me happy to see the purple dish soap in my dish scrubber. Brent and I disagree on dish soaps. I really like the concentrated stuff because I don't have to use as much and the bubbles last forever. Brent on the other hand likes the diluted stuff because it is cheap. While the kids and I were in Idaho at the beginning of the month, Brent bought some diluted dish soap so I've been using that for the past couple of weeks. The dish soap I bought today is the concentrated stuff, yipee!

So, despite my bad couple of days, life is really good! (even if my floors need mopped really bad)

Macy's Santaland

The kids and I went to Macy's Santaland with some friends. It is always interesting to see what the kids will think of Santa. Emma didn't take her eyes off of him and Austin didn't really want to look at him. This year we didn't have any screaming or crying, so we're getting better I think. Part of the fun with going to Santaland is waiting in line and looking at all of the displays. Of course Austin loved the trains. A couple of times Austin was so excited to see the trains, he started running full speed, weaving in and out of people standing in line so that he could see what was next.

Bryant Park

After the kids and I watched the trains at Grand Central, we met up with Brent for some pizza and a walk around Bryant Park. Austin loved running around, weaving around chairs and tables. He wanted to jump onto the ice, but it was cold so we just watched for a couple of minutes.

Austin loved watching the trains at the Transit Museum at Grand Central. Of course he had a new friend within 5 minutes of being there, they ran around the train together pointing at the trains. Here is some information about the train display from the MTA website.

Birdie/fishy face

The other day I took the kids out to try and get some cute pictures in their Christmas outfits, this is the best I got. Emma would love to sit and smile for me, but of course my two year old wants to run around.

Emma makes so many cute faces. One of my favorites looks like a little birdie or fishy. It's hard to get a picture of it because she just holds it for a couple of seconds, but here is a good picture.

Austin loves to push Emma in the stroller. He is quite good at lifting up the front wheels to go up the stairs or curb and pushing her in the door while holding the door open.

Grandma Sovine came to visit and of course the kids loved it!

When Brent and I were loading up our moving truck in Rexburg, my dad threw these tie downs in the truck just in case we needed them. They have come in handy. . . I used them to tie the kitchen chairs together for a couple of months so Austin couldn't climb on or move the chairs and I use them to keep his bedroom door shut since he can take the baby-proofing door knobs off.

Emma loves to be on her stomach - she rolled over in her carseat - I guess it's time to buckle her in while she's in her car seat swing.

We spent 4 weeks on vacation this summer. First off we flew to LA for 3 days to attend Brent's brother, Darrell's wedding. Darrell and Claudia were married in the LA temple and we loved having some Honduran food. We enjoyed being with Brent's family and seeing a little bit of LA. They kids and I flew to Idaho and Brent stayed with his family in the Sacramento area for a little over a week. The kids and I spent two weeks at my mom's house and two weeks at my dad's house. We had a blast. My step sister Madison stayed with us at my mom's house for a week and Austin loved having the extra attention from everyone. He loved swiging (wing wing, he would say) and playing on the deck in a little car. Emma mastered rolling onto her tummy right before we left NYC and insisted on sleeping on her tummy. While we were staying at my dad's house we drove to Wyoming to camp with the Townsend side of my family in the Big Horn Mountains. At the beginning of our trip Austin didn't like the 4-wheelers and motorcycles but while we were camping he loved riding on the ranger and sitting on a little motorcycle. He also loved playing in the dirt with tractors while we were camping and playing with all of his second cousins. We drove back from camping and prepared for my brother, Tyler's wedding. Tyler and Kelle had a beautiful wedding at the Hilton Garden Inn in Idaho Falls. The night before the wedding we had a family dutch oven dinner in my dad's backyard. My dad rented some segway's so everyone could play with them. Austin also loved riding on the segway's after he warmed up to them. Brent was pretty confident on them and after looking away from where he was going so he could blow me a kiss he almost ran into a tree and fell flat on his back. Everyone got a good laugh out of it :) Emma was wonderful and won over the hearts of family with her smile, laugh, and easy going personality. A couple of more things we did that I want to remember include going to lunch with Lindsay (an old roommate from college), lunch with Jenny, and going to the spray park with a Kiera and her kids, swimming at the Hilton, Trevor and Kelsey's rodeo, Austin loved the carousel, and finishing the blanket I crocheted for Emma . We had a great vacation and enjoyed visiting with our family for so long.

Austin loves to clean. In this picture he was sweeping up small pieces of paper (the mess he made) and taking it to the garbage. He is such a good helper!

Austin love bubbles. He will pour dish soap or shampoo in the tub/sink to make bubbles. He loves when Emma has blows raspberries or makes bubbles. I left a bottle of Aloe Vera on the counter and Austin loved looking at the bubbles in the bottle. He also loves to put stuff in his hair like it is gel. When I give him hand sanitizer, it goes in his hair, and a lot of times he puts food in his hair. So it was no surprise when he pumped some of the aloe vera into his palm and put it in his hair.

California Vacation

We spent the last two weeks in May visiting Brent's family in California. While we were there, my dad, Kelly Jane, and Maddie came to visit us too. We had a lot of fun with all of the family we were able to see. Here are a couple of pictures. I will post more when I get more from family members.

A couple of weeks before Emma was born, I laid Austin down on my bed and shut the door for his nap. After a 15-20 minutes I could hear him moving around still so I went to check on him. To my surprise, he moved a toy next to the door, stood on it, and managed to lock the door. This door required a key to unlock it, a key that we didn't have. I called Brent in a panic. Our super isn't home during the day, so I couldn't call him, so we decided my other option was to make a hole in the door so I could reach in and unlock the door. So that is what I did. A couple of days later, our super came to paint our wall (the wall that had a hole in it for awhile too because of a leak from the roof) and I pointed out the hole in the door. He said he would come fix it soon and would change the door knob so we could unlock it with a bobby pin. He still hasn't come to fix it (2 months later), but it has come in handy to spy on Austin while he is laying down for a nap. Today, I peaked in on him and found him climbing on our dresser.

Austin and my mom went to the Central Park Zoo with some friends this past week. Emma and I stayed home because the forecast called for a bit of rain that never happened. I'm sad Emma and I missed it, but it looks like they had fun without us anyways.

Well, she came 12 days early! Here's a timeline of events:

Wednesday, March 24th
10:45pm - My water broke as Brent was walking in the door from work.
11:30pm - Left for hospital
Midnight - Arrived at hospital

Thursday, March 25th
1:40am - Epidural
2:27am - Baby Emma was born

It was fast and i'm glad it's over and she is here. Now we are home and enjoying every minute of it. My mom flew in on Friday, just a couple of hours after we arrived home from the hospital. Austin is adjusting but I don't think he has realized that Emma is here to stay.

My kitchen is small. Relative to NYC kitchen's it's good sized, compared to kitchen's out west - it's SMALL. So, I don't have a lot of cupboard space. Despite this - one of my cupboards is empty - Austin has claimed it. I tried keeping stuff in there, but he emptied it out and it ended up being a battle I wasn't willing to fight. While I am in the kitchen Austin will bring toys, blankets, and pillows into his cupboard and play. Here are some pictures.

Trip to Idaho

Austin and I visited my family in Idaho for my brother, Trevor's, Wedding. Being 8 months pregnant and all, my mom felt bad that I would have to travel by myself since Brent couldn't get work off, so my mom made 2 round trips from SLC - NYC so that she could fly with us both ways, lucky! Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the wedding, but hopefully I will be able to get some from someone else. I didn't take many pictures of anything, but here are the few that I got.

Austin got car sick on the way to and from SLC. I guess he get's it from me. If you look closely you can see the throw up, not that you want to, but I had to get a picture since i've heard so many stories of me being that age and going through many outfits on a car ride.

Trevor, Austin, and Jade - Austin loved playing with all of my siblings and would follow my brother's around. My mom/Trevor's dog, Jade, got hit by a car a couple of days before we arrived, so she was calm enough for Austin to enjoy playing with her and he wasn't scared. One evening after dinner Austin had a roll in his hand and Jade wanted some. After Jade followed Austin around for a couple of minutes, Austin decided to tear some of his roll off and put his hand out for Jade to eat the roll. Jade snatched the roll so quick, it scared Austin and he just looked at me with a shocked/fearful face. Austin also loved getting kisses from Jade and Hogan(my new sister-in-law's dog). I thought it was gross, but he loved it.

On our flight home we had a layover in Detroit. Austin didn't sleep on the first flight, but fell asleep while we were taxing on the second leg of our flight. Our flight ended up being delayed about 1 1/2 hours, while we were sitting in the plane. We put my mom's noise canceling headphones on him because there was a group of loud ladies sitting around us and we didn't want them to wake Austin up. Luckily, Austin slept through most of the flight.

Austin's Hospital Stay

Sunday morning as I was getting ready for church, Austin pulled the cord on my curling iron which fell on and burned his cheek. We covered the burn and I took Austin to the pediatrician Monday evening to get some prescription burn cream. The pediatrician was concerned, so he called the burn unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital - they said to bring him to the hospital immediately to be admitted to the burn unit. We spent the night in the burn unit where the nurses cleaned the burn and put more ointment on it. While we were at the hospital, he had to drink some protein drinks - the only thing they had to give them to him was a bottle. We came home Tuesday afternoon. The reason he had to stay in the hospital was because it was 1)on his face where it is more likely to get infected and scar 2)he is so young 3) it is a second-degree burn.

Christmas Cruise

We spent some time at the zoo in Belize where Austin would wave "bye bye" to all of the animals.

Austin loved the water slide on the ship. I think he went down the slide at least 30 times. My step sister, Madison, would take him up the stairs, lay him on the slide and he would wave "bye bye" and then when he got to the bottom he would look for us and was grinning from ear to ear. It was cute.

This year for Christmas we went with my mom, step dad, and all of the kids on a Carribean cruise. Due to the snow storm in NYC the day we were supposed to fly to Miami, we missed 2 days of the cruise and got on the ship in Belize. Since we were home for a couple of extra days after the storm, we took Austin to play in the snow. He loved it but eventually got cold and upset.

I know I am a couple of months behind, but here are some pictures from some of our recent adventures. We went to the beach for an afternoon the beginning of September.

We went with some friends to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. We had 2 little girls with us who are Austins age. I thought it was cute that they were kind of holding hands.

This is the same model of helicopter used in the TV show MASH.

Austin loved playing in the boat, it is sitting on a big bag of water so it really feels like you are on the sea.

This morning I woke up at 4:30am, left my apartment at 5am, and listened to Tim McGraw sing from 6am-9am. However, there was also at least 1 1/2 hours of standing outside waiting for the music. Vacation

Austin and I flew to Idaho to spend some time with my family. We drove through Yellowstone Park to visit the Townsend side of the family in Wyoming. We spent a day in the Big Horn Mountains riding four-wheelers, eating good food, and chatting. After our week in Idaho, we met Brent in SLC and spent 4 days with his family going to family reunions. Here are some of the pictures I took, unfortunately I only took pictures while we were in Idaho and in the mountains. I must have forgotten I had a camera the rest of the time.

Brent's First Post Ever

Tiffany will probably be surprised that I posted on our blog. This is my first post on any blog ever; so for me, it's quite a big deal. I don't know why I've never posted, I just haven't. Anyway, I thought I'd let you all know that I recently passed the last section of the CPA exam and that I plan to be a New York State CPA by the end of the year. It was hard work, but I think it will be worth it. Tiff is still studying for her exams so I'm trying to be supportive and encouraging, the way she was for me. I'll also be studying for the GMAT so I can apply for Grad School sometime in the next few years.

Wow, I'm a slacker. Here's an update for June.

June 4th - Austin and I flew to Sanford, CO for my roommate from BYU-I's wedding. Shanae and Cole got married in Albuqurque and then had a reception in Sanford. It was a beautiful wedding and we enjoyed spending time with Shanae's family and getting to know Cole. June 10 - We received our first "share" of produce from our Community Supported Agriculture group. We have tried many new vegetables including kohlrobi, collard greens, sunflower sprouts, kale, squash blossoms, and turnips.

June 19 - We had a big baby shower party at my apartment for Julie and Terra, my friends in the ward.

June 19 - My mom came to visit us for a couple of days, then we drove with her to Frederick, MD where my step dad, Addison, and brother, Tyler, are working. They are putting in a new ride at Adventure Park USA. While they were working, we went on the roller coaster 3 times(thanks Brent) and took Austin on the carousel. We also were given tickets for the arcade games and won enough tickets to get Austin an assortment of arcade toys. We celebrated Austin's birthday while there and enjoyed spending time with family.

June 24 - Austin's birthday! We video chatted with my dad and step mom, Kelly Jane, while Austin opened present and ate a cupcake.

That is what we have been up to the past month. Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures all month, so hopefully I can get some from everyone else.

This morning some friends and I went to Rockefeller Plaza to watch(listen) to Adam Lambert and Kris Allen sing. We couldn't see much, but after jumping up and down a couple of times I was able to see Adam for a split second. Austin and I went to Central Park with one of our friends. It was a beautiful day and our warmest so far this year. The warm weather gets me excited for summer, although i'm not excited for the bugs, and humidity.

My friend is an amazing knitter. She taught me how to knit and got me started on my first project. I have enjoyed knitting and will start on a new project. I don't feel so lazy if i'm knitting while watching American Idol and it's something to do on the subway.

Here is Austin with his one and only cousin. Bridger is almost 2 and is sharing his toys with Austin very well. Austin likes sitting on the 4-wheeler and pushing the buttons and balancing on the seat.

Rexburg Vacation

Along with spending a lot of time with grandparents, Austin and I went to my brother Trevor's rodeo. First of all, I have to brag a little bit about my little bro, he rocks at calf roping and makes it look so easy. He took 1st in the rodeo this weekend which moved him up to 1st for the season thus far. Here's a picture of Austin and Uncle Trevy.
Unfortunately, Austin hasn't been 100% since he had bronchiolitis. We went to the doctor last week in Rexburg and found out he has a ear infection. Along with not feeling well, he hasn't been sleeping well. He went from sleeping 11 hours straight to waking up 2 times during a 11 hour stretch at night.

I have been keeping busy chasing Austin around our apartment. He is bonking his head less and crawling faster. Brent is really busy at work and has been staying late and working Saturdays. We miss him, but are looking forward to summer vacations.
We had a surprise birthday party for a friend at our apartment on Saturday and I think it was a success. We fit about 15 people in our apartment and it wasn't too overcrowded. This motivates me to have people over at our place more often. Maybe we'll have an "after busy season" party. . .in July.

Here are some tid bits about what Austin has been up to lately;

*Bonking his head on EVERYTHING
*Pulling himself up to the couch, chairs, table, bed, stroller, entertainment center, bookshelves, and anything else he can possible crawl to before I notice.
*Crawling faster and faster each day
*Cutting a tooth on top
*His bald spot on the back of his head is no longer bald
*He can crawl and stand up on the wood floors even if he has socks and pants on(very slippery)
*He likes most food except beef
*His smile can make the grumpiest New Yorker smile
*During primary last week he sang during closing exercises

Here is a picture of the result of going on a walk in the freezing cold. Austin's hat falls down over his eyes and he doesn't seem to care, he just falls asleep. Also, here is a picture of my new hair-do. Everytime I try to get a video of Austin laughing, he stops laughing as soon as he sees the camera because he wants to taste the camera. So I got sneeky and faced the camera towards the mirror and then started recording, he totally fell for it.

Slacker

I've been a slacker in the blogging area. There really hasn't been too much going on. We arrived in NYC on Jan 1st after our Christmas vacation. Our luggage was "lost" but found us only 17 hours later. We spent our time at home cleaning our apartment and making room for our Christmas presents.

Austin had his 6 month check up. He also started solids and doesn't seem to dislike any of the new foods.

Brent is busy studying and working hard.

I have enjoyed being a full-time mom and have been busy with primary stuff, studying, sewing projects, and playing with Austin. During Christmas vacation I got a hair cut and dyed my hair, i'm enjoying the change in my hairstyle. We recently acquired a room divider to put in our family room so that Austin has his own space. It's nice!

I'll take some pictures this week and maybe a video of Austin.

Twilight and Dallas BBQ

Saturday afternoon we went into Manhattan and watched "Twilight" the movie. I didn't think the movie was amazing, I didn't think Edward was very cute, but i'm glad we went. After the movie we went to Dallas BBQ because they have a great Early Bird Special. Here are some pictures of our Saturday.

The first two pictures below reminded us of items my brother Trevor sent home while he was on his mission to Dallas, TX.

Happy 5 Month Birthday to Austin

Today Austin is 5 months old. Here are some pictures I took recently. It's hard to get a picture of him smiling because he'll be smiling but when the flash starts he gets confused and ends up with a "huh?" face for the picture.

Weekends are a party at our house. Since mom and dad are both home all day, Austin doesn't like to take naps, instead we get little naps in and play all day. Friday night Austin woke up once because he had rolled from his back to his stomach and did not like it. We put him back to bed on his back and I went to check on him and he rolled over again and fell asleep on his tummy. This rolling over thing is new for Austin. He has rolled over about 5 times in the past two months, but tried to avoid it because he would rather be on his back. All day Saturday Austin would roll over every time we would lay him down. I think he's starting to figure out he can be more mobile by rolling over. He is also starting to sit up on his own. He usually sits for 10-15 seconds and then reaches for a toy and falls over. He's getting better though. Brent and I are really enjoying Austin. Austin has the biggest smile, it lights up his whole face. Yesterday while we were at stake conference, Austin would smile at someone and then get shy and turn and hide his head in my shoulder, it was so cute. His laugh is so contagious, I can't help but chuckle with him. Anyways, enjoy the movie.

A Mouse Story

Our mouse story started about two weeks ago. Brent was home sick for a couple of days with a nasty cold. I got home in evening and Brent ran to the store while I was feeding Austin and getting him ready for bed. As I was sitting on the couch, I saw a little mouse run across the wall across from me. I of course flipped out. I stood on the couch holding Austin while I called Brent. He came home, and after about an hour of searching for the mouse, Brent caught it on a glue trap and took it to the garbage shoot. He then left to finish at the store. While he was gone I saw another mouse, but wasn't fast enough to get the mouse trap and watch where it was going while I was saying to myself, "be brave, be brave." After that night, we decided we needed more mouse traps. So we got some more glue traps and a snap trap. We didn't see any mice for two weeks, but I did notice some bugs that got stuck on the glue trap were gone, so I figured the mouse ate them.
I was starting to feel like we had scared the mice away and like I could put my shoes on without checking inside them for a mouse. Last night, Austin woke up at 3am. This is very unusual since he has been sleeping from 10pm - 7am for the last month or two. I got up and changed his diaper and he was still crying, not a "I'm hungry" cry, but a different cry. So I decided I would take him in our room to sleep with us. On my way to our room, I noticed a dead mouse with the snap trap on it. ewh ewh ewh. Brent got rid of the mouse and I'm really hoping that's the last of them. We started having problems after the exterminator came last time. We didn't have them spay because we were worried about Austin being in the house. I think the mice got kicked out of someone else's apartment and decided to visit us. I think we will have the exterminator pay us a visit next month.

I guess I'm getting pretty lame, since all I post lately are videos. Brent took his 3rd CPA exam on Thursday. My work has been getting busier, so I will have to work more hours during the coming weeks. Austin is growing so much and is a lot of fun to play with. He is getting more coordinated with his hands, reaching for toys, rolling over (even though he doesn't like to and doesn't do it often), reach for us, loves to watch himself in the mirror, and is sleeping 8-9 hours per night. He loves sucking on his hands (or anything else) and is always willing to smile. This weekend we spent a lot of time shopping for Christmas and recovering from colds.
